Welcome to TAS Literacy!

Hello and welcome to the TAS Literacy blog focused on free reading resources for parents and fellow educators!

TAS Literacy, named after our founder Taylor Sofranko, is dedicated to empowering young minds through the power of reading and writing. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, multi-sensory reading and writing services to all readers in NYC and elsewhere, whether they are beginning their reading journey or need help along the way. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive academically and to develop a lifelong love for learning.

Who We Are

I'm Taylor and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the founder of TAS Literacy! I am a New York City-based reading specialist with over 10 years of classroom teaching experience. I graduated from The University of Florida (go gators!) with a Bachelor's degree in general education and a Master's degree in special education, with endorsements in teaching reading. During my studies, I received additional training in the Orton-Gillingham teaching method, igniting my passion for teaching reading. While I was teaching, I went back to school to obtain my reading specialist certification.

With a deep passion for literacy and a commitment to excellence, I have dedicated my career to helping children overcome their reading and writing challenges. My approach is rooted in proven multi-sensory techniques that cater to the unique needs of each student, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed. I truly believe that learning should be fun and student-focused!

What We Offer

1:1 Tutoring Sessions:

Our personalized tutoring sessions are designed to address the specific needs of each student in grades K-8. We provide in-person sessions in Manhattan and Brooklyn and online sessions anywhere in the US! By utilizing research-based curriculum aligned with the Orton-Gillingham method, we engage multiple senses to reinforce learning, making it more effective and enjoyable.

For older students in grades 6-8, in addition to literacy instruction, we offer executive functioning tutoring to assist with organization, time management, studying, task initiation, and self-regulation. We focus on practical strategies that students can easily integrate into their daily routines, fostering independence and confidence.

Free Resources for Families:

In addition to our tutoring services, we are committed to supporting families in their literacy journey. Our blog is filled with free resources, tips, and activities that you can use at home to help your child grow their literacy skills. From interactive reading games to writing prompts and strategies, our goal is to equip you with the tools you need to foster a love for reading and writing in your child.
